RE: Gas mileage with Ford V10

Seems to me the key to gas mileage is speed. I pull a 2002 Saturn and drive between 60 and 65 mph. I average a little over 8 mpg and better if I drive slower.

RE: Cabover forward window

Overhead windows are such a pain. I haven't heard of one breaking like yours but they do tend to leak and cause lots of water problems for the overhead. If I had the chance, I'd investigate the possibility of a plug and do away with the window completely. Cooler in the summer warmer in the winter less chance of leaking.

RE: Olive oil in tanks to prevent sticking?

I second the olive oil suggestion for Bad Advice of the Week! Have you seen what happens to olive oil when it gets cool?

RE: Important Tools To Carry On Board Motorhome...

It seems like no matter how many tools I carry--the one I need is at home.

RE: GPS systems

I've been using my GPS for about 5 years and I love it! I'd be lost with out it! Anyway, I've found that it is a good idea to look at a paper/computer map and become familar with the area before I travel there. I can set my GPS for truck routes but every now and then she takes a route that I wouldn't select. That's when looking at the map ahead of time is a good idea. Heights of bridges? I haven't seen that feature in a GPS.

RE: Steps out: How to get them back in.

Grab a can of WD-40 and spray all the moving parts. The step catches a lot of grime while zooming down the road.

RE: Where to store propane for the BBQ

While propane is flammable, I don’t think the containers pose a safety hazard. The containers and tanks can take quite a beating without posing a problem. When shot with guns they quickly empty and that’s about it. I used to live in California and there were no regulations concerning the transportation of propane in private vehicles.

RE: What are wheelwell liners?

I don't recall ever seeing any wheel well liners. Sounds like a great idea though except for the added weight. Sounds to me like you have were slightly confused.

RE: "C's" buried in snow?

We spent the 3 day weekend in Tallahassee, Fl at the Tallahassee RV Park. It was a chilly weekend but our motorhome kept us nice and toasty warm.

RE: Defending the use of RV

I went through that phase with my family and some friends. Then my sister and some friends saw the light and now have RV's of their own. The others, well, it really doesn't matter what they think--I take my RV everywhere, too.

RE: East to west and back again in a month?

I think it can be done easily enough. A few years ago we went from Georgia to California and back in a month. We picked out certain things we wanted to do and see along the way and made them happen. We have friends scattered all along our route complements of the Air Force and we found the time to stop and visit both going and coming. There is no way to see and do everything so pick what you want to see and do the most an plan to just do it!

RE: Researching a newer Class C

A bunk over the driver with a window that the kids can look out. (A camper brand that doesn't have a consistent problem with leaky upper bunks.) This is like wanting to have your cake and eat it too. The window in the cabover bunk is the reason for most leaks.
